James Lillard
Expertise: Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Spot Work / Troubleshooting
James began a successful amateur bicycling racing career in his early teens and collected many national medals over the years. With his sports experience plus professional study under recognized and published authorities in the field of bodywork, he has acquired extensive knowledge of sports fitness, injury and recovery.
With nearly two decades of training both body and mind, James has developed a deep understanding of the human body and its potential to heal. After many years of riding, injury and recovery, James' fascination with the healing arts has only deepened. He has followed up that fascination with hard work, study and the creation of OnBalance.
When he is not engaged in massage activity, or managing the business he can be found riding his bicycle or enjoying time with family.
Jaire Vieira
Expertise: Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Release, Deep Tissue, Swedish Massage, Sports Massage
Jaire has been working in the field of body/mind therapy for over a decade, and feels that relaxation is a key component in recovering from any injury or illness, and a fundamental part of relieving and eliminating stress. A long-time practitioner of meditation and sound therapy, Jaire emphasizes addressing the entire body/mind connection as a whole in order to achieve long-lasting therapeutic effects, and to live a more centered and balanced life.
Each session with Jaire is carefully designed to address the individual needs of his clients. “In order to notice and become aware with what is going on in our body, we need to learn how to quiet our mind. If the mind is agitated, it is impossible to become attuned to our body.”
Jaire offers sessions in Massage Therapy, Massage/Sound Therapy Combo, and Sound Therapy.
George Halet
Expertise: Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release, Sports Massage
A deep appreciation for the benefits of manual therapy and a lifelong love of physical activity (often over-activity!) led George to complete basic and sports massage in 2008. George has continued to develop his massage skills by pursuing deep tissue and myofascial release.
An avid consumer of training and rehabilitation information, George is a convert to proprioceptive diversity, as opposed to endurance activities and is on a quest to understand the effect of movement patterns on dysfunction.
An engineer by training, George works in the biotech industry as a software testing project manager and lives in the Peninsula with his wife and teenage son.

modalties
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential "time element" has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
Sports Massage
Sports massage is designed to help atheletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. But you don't have to be in the Olympics to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. This is the type of sports massage that you see in the spa. Sports massage is a type of Swedish massage that stimulates circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion.
DEEP TISSUE
Techniques that utilize deep-tissue/deep-muscle massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. These techniques require advanced training and a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep-tissue massage, otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.

Swedish
One of the most commonly
taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish
massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed
to energize the body by stimulating circulation.
Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart,
are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body.
The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only
the area being worked on exposed. Therapists use a
combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational,
percussive, and tapping movements, with the
application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin.
The many benefits of Swedish massage may include
generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue
adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed
healing and reduce swelling from injury.
